Top Baby Movies For New Moms And Moms-To-Be

January 12, 2012

Carter has passed on his sickness to me :(. I am feeling awful but at least he is feeling better. He still has a runny nose so we are still struggling with that. Right before every milestone I wish things could stay the same. Before he rolled over, before he sat up, and before he crawled; each time I wanted to freeze time and keep him small forever. But man am I longing for the day Carter learns how to blow his nose!

Being sick leaves us with time  to lay around and watch movies. This leads me to the title of this blog post. We came across some new movies and also remembered some old ones that I have a new view now that I am a parent. Here is my list of top movies for new moms or moms-to-be.

The Change Up.

This movie is good, not great. I put it first because the first 10 minutes of this movie made me laugh so hard I cried. I tried to wipe tears away fast so I could see the TV. Jason Bateman, a married father of twins and Ryan Reynolds, a bachelor with no ties, switch bodies in your typical 17 Again, Visa Versa and Freaky Friday fashion. The first 10 minutes at least are a must see for new parents. Next to the first 10 minutes of the movie is a scene where the babies wake up in the middle of the night and the mom, Leslie Mann says “Your turn.” When Bateman (who is at that time really Reynolds) says he isn’t going to do it, Mann sits up and says “Bitch, I will cut you.”

Knocked Up.

If you haven’t seen this movie yet, then you must not have cable. Lord knows they play it all the time. I got to say that I have watched it a hundred times and every time I think it is hilarious.

Katherine Heigl finds herself pregnant after a one-night-stand with an unemployed stoner, Seth Rogan.

This movie follows 4 new mom’s from different parts of the world in their first year of motherhood. We watched this before I was pregnant and then again after. It was so interesting seeing how different cultures raise their babies. My jaw dropped when the woman from Mongolia hopped on a motorcycle while holding her newborn baby shortly after delivery.
This is a must see!

Date Night.

Every new parent can appreciate the feeling of needing to go out and have an adventure again. Steve Carell and Tina Fey hit New York City hard when a case of mistaken identity leads them on a wild adventure. This is another good, not great movie but it has a couple scenes that make the entire movie worth watching. One in particular is when their little boy wakes up Carell with a drop-elbow to the face and says “I love you!”

Baby Mama.

This movie is awesome all the way through. Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are perfect in their roles! Poehler makes the jokes while Fey reacts. A single, successful business woman (Fey) hires a working class woman (Poehler) to be her surrogate. Highlight quotes are 1) “Can I just spray a little Pam down there right before the baby comes out?” 2) “Did you just put your gum under my coffee table?” “I don’t know.”  3) “It feel like I’m shitting a knife!” about being in labor. Instant comedy classic for me.

Favorite. Favorite. Favorite. Makes me laugh and makes me cry while listening to great music. A high school student (Ellen Page) discovers she is pregnant with her sort of boyfriend’s (Michael Cera) child and decides to go through with her pregnancy and give her baby up for adoption to a couple (Jason Bateman and Jennifer Garner) she finds in The Penny Saver.

Three Men And A Baby.

Three bachelors are forced to take care of a baby left in their apartment.

Tom Selleck, Steve Guttenberg and Ted Danson singing “Goodnight Sweetheart” to a baby girl they are falling in love with is enough to make any woman’s heart melt.
