The First Tooth and New Orleans

October 18, 2011

I only went out of town for a day and a half and Carter got his first tooth! They grow so stinking fast! He had been nursing like crazy three days before I left. Since he will be 6 months on Friday, I just thought it was a growth spurt. I tried to take a picture of it, but he was too wiggley. My pictures turned out like this:

My big little boy has a tooth! How cool! I think I have to buy toothpaste now?

My trip to New Orleans was a blast. It was short and sweet and just the right amount of fun. I had gotten up to go to the airport at 3:30am on Saturday. After connecting in Atl and the time change, I arrived at the hotel at 10:30am. There was some girl screaming and jumping up and down before we went exploring. Our party was made up of 7 girls including me. The other six had been there since Thursday. New Orleans is an amazing city. It was like New York City with street performers, closed down roads, tourists and shops every where. The signature wrap-around porches were so beautiful! They were my favorite part. I took more pictures of the different porches than of my friends.

After exploring, lunch and shopping, we went back to the hotel to get ready at 6. Everyone was rested (except me)  and ready to go out by 9:00pm. Charlotte time it was 10:00pm, which means I would have been in bed for an hour already at home. So tired!

We went out to dinner at Pat O’Briens. It was delicious! I drank redbull vodkas to stay awake. When the bachelorette said she was ready to go somewhere else I said, “Let me finish my drink.” To which she replied, “You can take your drinks with you here.” That is so convenient! I would have gotten in so much trouble if I came here when I was younger. I was pretty drunk on Bourbon Street. Every time a guy would talk to me I would yell in a drunken slur “I have a baby!” and laugh. Very classy I know. By some miracle I was able to stay out on Bourbon St. until 3:30am! Minus a trip to the hotel to pump and dump of course! :).

I was very nervous about this trip because I didn’t want to be away from Carter. He was just fine at home with my husband and I had so much fun. Moms need a good break every now and then. When you are wrapped up in baby world, it is very easy to forget that. Looking back, it was good for Carter and Frank to get some quality time together without me. I did miss him like crazy though, and it will be a long while before I take another trip without him.

LESSON LEARNED: Moms need a vacation. Your baby will be just fine with your baby’s father or family.
