Cutting Infant Nails

August 17, 2011

Cutting your baby’s finger and toe nails can be very scary! Especially when they are first born and their little fingers are so tiny! I purchased a standard pair of baby finger nail clippers and cut Carter’s fingers twice where they bled. I cried both times vowing that I would just let him have long nails. He would be in the Guinness Book of World Records as the baby with the longest finger nails. We would be on the news and all the mothers of the world would look at me in shame.

I found these clippers around the house and they have truly changed the whole finger nail cutting experience. With the standard baby nail clippers you can’t see the finger nails. Even when Carter was eating or sleeping, he would still pull his hand back. I felt like I was fighting the same battle that I have fought, and lost, so many times with my dog. These nail clippers allow you to see the nail and make a clean cut without cutting skin. Works great for toe nails too! I would still recommend the baby be sleeping or eating when you do this to reduce movement.

LESSON LEARNED: Get the right kind of baby nail clippers.

Carter didn’t have the patience for me to file and to be honest, neither did I. Props to you! You can find them anywhere I believe. Target I know has them. I’m not sure if they have a specific name. They came with a manicure set I got.
